The Burks Companies was founded in 1991 by Frederick E. Burks. TBC specializes in serving large complex engagements projects. TBC initially served on consulting projects for major Atlanta-based companies, including Coca-Cola, Delta Air Lines, American Air Lines, Tulane and Xavier Universities and the Housing Authority of New Orleans. Among these initial projects included partnering with an independent facilities-maintenance service provider to provide operations management consulting for several major Atlanta companies’ headquarters facilities, including Coca-Cola, Georgia Power and the D&E Concourses at Atlanta’s Hartsfield International Airport.
In January 1998, TBC successfully completed a merger with the Hotel Services division of facilities maintenance services company Partners Property Maintenance, Inc. (PPM). James M. Weisbrodt, founder of PPM, joined TBC as EVP of Business Development. From that point forward, TBC began its expansion from its beginnings as a consulting operation to emerge as a full-spectrum services provider. Initial service offerings included janitorial, communications/gear-room maintenance, exterior grounds maintenance and pressure washing, recycling-program maintenance and inventory-management services. Early service clients included CNN Center and Delta Airlines.
In 2004, TBC further expanded its services offering to include a host of Controlled Environment Services (CES), including GMP cleaning of sterile/aseptic manufacturing areas, biohazard incinerator operations, lab services and inventory-management services. Early CES services clients included Northeast-based chemical/pharmaceutical companies, such as GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson & Johnson & Pfizer and their various subsidiaries.
In January 2011, TBC became officially engaged with Howard University in the creation of a baseline assessment for physical facilities management (PFM) of the University, as well as day-to-day management of various janitorial, grounds, pest control and other key facility services. In this role, TBC established key partnering relationships with subcontracted service providers, including Jones Lang LaSalle, Johnson Controls, Inc., and management of other subsidiaries, including Al Keith Associates, and Dynamix.
TBC continues to provide a host of Integrated Facilities Management consulting and supporting services to its growing list of clients across multiple industries nationwide.
When I founded The Burks Companies in 1991, we started with a clear mission: to provide unsurpassed client service and proactive solutions at all levels in the facilities management environment. For more than two decades, we have honored that mission, which I firmly believe is critical to maintaining The Burks Companies' sterling reputation.
As the company embarked upon its third decade of service, I challenged our leadership team to set aggressive growth goals. I have every confidence in our employees to meet this challenge and to achieve our goals for growth while remaining customer-focused and committed to quality and integrity.
As we continue to strive toward achieving these goals for our company, our efforts have been bolstered by a simple call-to-action that sums up our mindset:
